While I like your point that Baird's claims are clearly false, the real problem is that under this plan, it is unlikely Canada could come close to meeting the weak 2020 target (since there are no hard targets on industry).

Perhaps the federal government will start to learn from the provinces - like BC - that appear to be attacking emissions reductions seriouslySimon Donnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01844831377442275615noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25267532.post-60810700423076346232007-04-29T15:13:00.000-04:002007-04-29T15:13:00.000-04:00Thank you very much for the insightful comment and...Thank you very much for the insightful comment and link to a document showing how much of a challenge Denmark has had to overcome.

The Harper Government is an international embarrassment for Canada. The sooner the Opposition gets their act together and brings them down, the more time we would have to try to get as close as possible to our Kyoto targets. As you say, the Opposition already has a coherent alternative plan.

I also like your proposed Tory Campaign Slogan :-)ydzabelishenskyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12235298150467123070noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25267532.post-82890872753162246052007-04-29T13:56:00.000-04:002007-04-29T13:56:00.000-04:00It' fascinating too that Denmark now figures they'...It' fascinating too that Denmark now figures they'll come in at around 3% above their target. Just 4 years ago, they were about 35% above their target (source). So in just 4 years, they've gone from 35% above their target, to just 3% above. That's pretty impressive. And aggressive. Denmark was essentially as behind just four years ago as we are today, and have almost gotten back on track.

It's especially impressive when you compare Canada's target under Kyoto to Denmark's. Canada's Kyoto target is to reduce emissions by 6% below 1990 levels. Denmark's Kyoto target is to reduce emissions by 21% below 1990 levels.

So, Denmark has gone from about 35% above target to 3% above target in four years (for a target 3 times more aggressive than ours). The Tory plan for Canada is to go from 35% above target, to 11% above target, in 13 years. Does that look "aggressive" to you???

Now, imagine if we were comparing ourselves against the countries that are actually going to hit their targets.

Pathetic.Lord Kitchener's Ownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08348376638620272991noreply@blogger.com
